Implementation of the Education Program

1. Purpose:
We will newly establish a field linguistics education program, corpus linguistics education program, and linguistic informatics education program in the postgraduate program, and will comprehensively conduct the education programs of the three fields. The main objective in newly establishing this education program is to give graduate students researching languages a wider perspective.

2. Core Member in Charge: Narita, Takashi (GSACS)

3. Collaborating Researchers:
Nakagawa, Hiroshi (GSACS); Tomimori, Nobuo (GSACS); Tono, Yukio (GSACS); Sano, Hiroshi (GSACS)

4. Progress:
By organically linking classes already established in the second half doctoral course and newly-commencing classes, we obtained the cooperation of Nakagawa, Hiroshi regarding the “field linguistics education program,” Tomimori and Tono regarding the “corpus linguistics education program,” and Sano regarding the “language informatics education program” and were able to position the three education programs in the fiscal year 2008 curriculum and complete preparations for starting them. Each of the education programs is comprised of a combination of three to four half-year slots, and in light of the objective, which is to teach graduate students researching language in a wider perspective, we set it up so that not only second half doctoral course students but also first half doctoral course students could enter the programs. Based on the outcomes in fiscal year 2008, we will improve the programs further in fiscal year 2009 and later.

5. Accomplishments:
We created the “field linguistics education program, corpus linguistics education program, and linguistic informatics education program course flyer” (working title), distributed it at the same time as the graduate school guide, and, plan to simultaneously post it on the GCOE website.
